The instructor will cover facts
about Legionnaires' disease--symptoms,
diagnosis, incidence, modes of transmission, and microbiology--and give an
overview of environmental monitoring, guidelines, and domestic water
disinfection. About the Instructor Top Janet E. Stout, PhD, is Director of the Special Pathogens Laboratory at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh (USA) and a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She earned her BS in Biology from Clarion (Pennsylvania) State College and her Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Stout has significant experience in Legionella detection and disinfection. Recent studies have involved eradication of legionellae from hospital water systems by copper-silver ionization and chlorine dioxide and molecular epidemiology of Legionnaires' disease. She is the author of three book chapters on Legionnaires' disease and more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, including papers published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, the Journal of Infectious Diseases, and the Journal of the American Water Works Association. Dr. Stout is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of American, and ASHRAE’s Water Treatment Committee. Unbiased Recommendations Top
